Wild and Beautiful Engagement at White Sands National Park
Some connections are felt before they are fully understood, and from the moment we met Jenny, we knew she was someone special. Our first introduction happened at a local coffee shop, though in a charming twist of fate it was Jenny herself, working behind the counter as a barista, who ended up making our drinks. It was the kind of serendipitous beginning that felt perfectly fitting for the adventure that was to follow. We always make a point of meeting our couples before any session because our engagement shoots tend to lean toward the adventurous side, and this one would take us all the way to White Sands National Park in New Mexico, one of the most breathtaking and otherworldly landscapes in the entire country.
Before we ever set foot on those iconic dunes, we had the pleasure of meeting Chris for the first time in Las Cruces, where the four of us spent a leisurely morning wandering through the local farmer’s market, sharing a long and unhurried lunch at a nearby Italian restaurant, and swapping stories that made the miles between Oklahoma and New Mexico feel completely insignificant. It was during those quiet and unhurried hours together that we truly began to understand what makes this couple so extraordinary. Chris and Jenny are the kind of people who make everyone around them feel more alive. They are brave and deeply compassionate, wildly in love, and completely unguarded in the way they move through the world together. Watching them together is nothing short of infectious. We also may have walked away from the farmer’s market with a couple of doggie bandanas, but that is beside the point.
From the golden rocky landscape of the Organ Mountains to an unexpectedly perfect spot just off the side of a parking lot at Aguirre Springs Campground, the day was filled with laughter and genuine joy at every turn. But nothing quite compared to the final hours we spent together running through the sweeping white dunes of White Sands National Park as the light began to soften and glow. The landscape is truly indescribable, vast and luminous and unlike anything else on earth, and watching Chris and Jenny move through it together felt like witnessing something cinematic. They were completely in their element, completely in love, and completely unforgettable. We returned home feeling deeply grateful to now call them friends, and counting down the days until we reunite to celebrate their Mayo Hotel wedding in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
